Step One - Recognize that you are a sinner!

The Bible says that NOBODY is without sin!

Romans 3:10

As it is written: "There is no one righteous, not even one; (NIV)

Jesus is the only person to have ever walked on this planet that never sinned. Everyone else has sinned… everyone!

Many people think of sin as murder, adultery, robbery or really "bad" things.

But sin is simply "missing the mark", or "not doing everything that God has instructed us to do".

If we're not totally obedient to God, we sin!  Even the great preacher Billy Graham has sinned.

The Bible is clear on this - NO ONE is righteous.

Step Two - For all have sinned;

Romans 3:23

For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, (NIV)

We have already seen, in Step One that NOBODY is without sin. This verse makes it clear that everybody HAS sinned. Again - EVERYBODY, including me and you! The only person who ever lived on this planet WITHOUT sin was Jesus Christ.

What do you think should happen to somebody who has sinned?

Step Three - There is a "paycheck" for sin;

Romans 6:23

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. (NIV)

Just like you get a "paycheck" for working, there is a "paycheck" for sin. The Bible says that the "paycheck" (wages) of sin is death. That BECAUSE of sin, we will die. But this verse is not talking about the physical death, it is speaking of the Spiritual death. And, since EVERYBODY has sinned, this “paycheck” is due EVERYBODY. But there's HOPE ----

Keep reading, to find out about this great hope!

Step Four - Jesus died to purchase for us our Salvation.

Romans 5:8

But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (NIV)

We have seen that ALL have sinned, and that there is a "paycheck" for sin - death. BUT, the Bible says, God "demonstrates" (proves) his own love for us by giving us a way to Him through Jesus Christ. Jesus died to purchase for us our Salvation. And the fact is, that we don't have to be "good enough" - The Bible says that WHILE WE WERE YET SINNERS, Christ died for us!

So we DESERVE death and Hell, but God has provided a way for us to have Eternal Life! Keep reading!

Step Five - Ask Jesus to forgive you of your sins and Save you.

Romans 10:9 That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. (NIV)

By believing in your heart that Jesus died, and rose again, and is Lord, and saying so with your mouth, the Bible says you can have Salvation. We call that "praying the prayer of Salvation", and it involves our trip on the Roman Road (these verses you read). I would encourage you to pray to God, admitting you are a sinner, and asking Jesus to forgive you of your sins and Save you.

So, what do you do about this? Please continue reading...

Now What?

We have seen that EVERYBODY has sinned. That includes you and me.

We have seen that the "wages", or result of sin is Spiritual death.

We have also seen that God loves us so much that He gave His own son, Jesus, to die for us, to give us Salvation.

We would encourage you to pray - simply talking to God - and tell Him that you admit you are a sinner. Tell Him that you are sorry for your sins, and ask Him to forgive you.

A sample prayer might look like this…

Father, I know I'm a sinner. I know I cannot save myself. I ask you to forgive me of my sins, and I want you to be the Lord of my life. Lord, I commit my life to you, to live for you, and to belong to you. Thank you, Lord, for saving me from my sins. (Amen)
